The Watermarks Catalogue provides information and research possibilities, which go beyond the scope of the RISM-OPAC and Digital Collections and supplement them. While the watermarks there are recorded with a brief description (in English) and an illustration attached to the digital reproduction of the musical score, the Watermarks Catalogue provides additional information on the origin (paper mill, paper maker, state, region), dating as well as supplementary literature. Furthermore, the illustration can be directly accessed here via a link.

The watermark abbreviations (IDs) allocated by the project, beginning with the "W-Dl" prefix in each case, form a link between the English watermark description in the RISM database and the German terminology in the Watermarks Catalogue.

Some symbols are used in the description of the watermarks that have the following meaning:

/A "/" is set to divide the description oft the watermark and countermark
+A "+" connects the most characteristic elements of a watermark
I, II
"I" and "II" stay for a pair, e. g. two sieves that where used parallelly in the process of papermaking and whose watermarks are almost similar to each other
a, b
Right and left halfs of the sheet
cMiddle of the sheet

Since the end of 2016 the Watermark Catalogue provides all the results from the two projects "Schrank II" and "Court Church and Royal Private Music Collection" being both concerned with the music from the era of the Union between Saxony and Poland. All the watermarks have been evaluated that were sufficiently clearly recognisable. The watermarks of the "Schrank II" Project are presented as photographs, those of the succeeding project as traces.

All the watermarks from the materials of the "Schrank II" Project have been evaluated that were sufficiently clearly recognisable. A summary of the research findings is to be found in the "Schranck No: II. Das erhaltene Instrumentalrepertoire der Dresdner Hofkapelle aus den ersten beiden Dritteln des 18. Jahrhunderts" volume II (Chapter: "Über die in den Manuskripten aus dem Schranck No: II verwendeten Papiersorten").
